The dollar store had packs of buttons, separated by color, and I just had to have the purple one. Can you tell it's my favorite color? I had no plan for them, until one weekend when I decided to do some sort of neck accessory with them. Maybe a statement necklace, or a collar. I played around with them and ended up settling for a collar. I don't have any pics of the construction process (made pre-blog), but here is the final look:
What I did: I cut out the collar from black felt (I used this pattern.) I arranged the buttons on the collar how I wanted them. I was going to sew them on (inspired by this look), but I realized that it was way too much hassle than it was worth, because the buttons kept falling out of place as I was sewing. Plus, some of the buttons had loops instead of holes, so it wouldn't have worked anyways. Instead I broke out the glue gun, and made easy work of it! I sewed the front together and then two ribbons onto the back. I singed the ends of the ribbon with an incense stick et voila!
